Uruguay vs Panama Predictions

Uruguay primed to start tournament strongly

You have to go back to 2011 for the last time Uruguay won the Copa America, and they are third favourites with the bookies to add to their haul of 15 titles this summer.

Part of the reason behind that is a strong recent run of form which has seen them win four times in seven outings, including 2-0 victories over Argentina and Brazil in World Cup qualifying.

Indeed, Marcelo Bielsa’s side have a phenomenal defensive record, keeping clean sheets in five of those fixtures, as they have in seven of their last ten games in the previous editions of this tournament.

Can Panama cause a shock?

That will strike fear into opponents Panama, who have qualified for the Copa America for just the second time in their history – their previous experience seeing a group stage elimination in 2016.

Worryingly, they hardly head to the states in good form, with their final warm up game ending in a 1-0 loss against Paraguay.

That was a third defeat in five outings for Thomas Christiansen, who have worryingly failed to score in each reversal, as they have in their last two head-to-heads with Uruguay.
