Atleti back from break

If you thought the international break was long, spare a thought for Atletico Madrid. After their clash with Sevilla was called off, Diego Simeone’s side last played a game on August 28th. Weeks later, they return to action in Saturday’s visit to Valencia.

Don’t feel too sorry for Atleti, as they have been able to spend weeks coasting off the back of their 7-0 win at Rayo Vallecano at the end of last month. Simeone’s side have taken seven points from their first three, while they’re favourites ahead of this visit to a Valencia side who are struggling.

Another defeat for hosts?

Valencia have lost their last two games, falling at home to Osasuna before a 1-0 defeat at Alaves which sent them into the international break on a low note.

The hosts are now without a win in 17 meetings with Atleti, a run which includes 11 defeats. That could be extended this weekend and given how well Atleti have started the campaign, you have to fear for a Valencia side who lost five of their six clashes with the top three last term – losing to nil both home and away to Atletico.

Simeone’s 3-5-2 set up looks incredibly well balanced and with his side making an excellent start at both ends of the pitch the visitors look like fantastic value to take all three points on Saturday afternoon.
