Vancouver Whitecaps to Win

Reason for tip

Vancouver’s form has been mixed of late but at home they have been consistent as they’re unbeaten in eight (W5, D3) across all comps. The Western Conference-leading Whitecaps can make the most of their home advantage against San Diego, who have four losses in their last six on the road.

Vancouver Whitecaps 2-1

Reason for tip

Vancouver score on average just one two goals per-game at home and San Diego have scored in 75% of their MLS road games, so a 2-1 home win appeals.

Brian White To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Brian White had scored five goals in as many games for Vancouver before linking up with the USA squad for an extended period. He was used sparingly by the Stars and Stripes and should come back into MLS action fresh, he can get back among the goals against San Diego.

Vancouver Whitecaps vs San Diego Predictions

  • Vancouver have won five of their last seven home games.
  • San Diego have four defeats in their last six on the road.
  • San Diego have scored in six of their eight MLS trips.

Home advantage could decide key Western Conference tie

The top two in the Western Conference meet in MLS in the early hours of Thursday morning as pacesetters Vancouver Whitecaps host closest challengers San Diego.

The Whitecaps form has dipped a little of late with just two wins in their last eight across all competitions, although they have also only lost two of those games. However, their issues have largely come on the road and with home advantage they look good value to see off inconsistent travellers San Diego.

The visitors have four defeats in their last six MLS road games and their successes away from home have generally been against the weaker teams, with three of their four victories outside of San Diego coming against members of the Western Conference’s bottom four.

Vancouver are unbeaten in eight at home across all competitions and they’ve won five of their last seven at this venue, and that form suggests they can claim maximum points against San Diego.

San Diego are generally good for a goal on their travels as they have scored in six of their eight MLS trips. Vancouver score on average just one two goals per-game at home so a 2-1 win seems a reasonable correct score prediction.

Brian White is Vancouver’s top MLS scorer with 10 goals and he should come into this game fresh after missing a few fixtures due to being included in the USA squad, where he was used sparingly across five games in June. White has five goals in his last five games for his club and can pick up where he left off by helping his side down San Diego.
