Benfica vs Bayern Munich Predictions

  • Bayern Munich have won 12 of their last 13 Champions League away games, drawing the other.
  • Benfica have not beaten Bayern Munich in their last four attempts (3 defeats, 1 draw).
  • Serge Gnabry has scored five goals in his last seven appearances for club and country.

Don’t back against brilliant Bayern

Bayern Munich will look to extend their 19-match unbeaten run away from home in the Champions League when they face Benfica in Lisbon on Wednesday night.

The German champions are short-priced favourites to get all three points, which seems fair considering their recent record against Benfica and the manner of their 5-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday. Julian Nagelsmann’s side dismantled their nearest Bundesliga challengers in a first-half display of ruthless efficiency, featuring a four-goal blast in seven minutes.

Benfica won’t be anywhere near as open or naive this week, but are unlikely to be able stop Bayern’s march to the next stage even with a full compliment of players. Wing-back Valentino Lazaro and striker Haris Seferovic are probably out with injuries while Bayern will be boosted by the return of Benjamin Pavard from suspension. Nagelsmann was able to rest several key players once his team had established a firm grip on Leverkusen, so the visitors ought to be relatively fresh too.

Gnabry good value to score

Robert Lewandowski is in his best plundering form but Serge Gnabry, author of a weekend brace, offers better value in the anytime goalscorer betting. Author of a weekend brace, Gnabry has hit five goals in his last seven appearances for club and country.

In contrast to their domestic form, half of Bayern’s last ten away Champions League results have come with clean sheets and so another win to nil might occur – also given Benfica’s most recent home game ended in a 1-0 defeat to Portimonense. But we’d rather take the similar odds of Bayern winning with fewer than four goals in the game because 60% of the visitors last ten games have fallen this way.

Bayern have outscored as Águias 10-3 over the three wins and a draw they have enjoyed across these sides last four meetings and we expect this to finish in a 3-0 away victory. Three of Bayern’s last ten Champions League away games ended in this scoreline too.
