Verona Double Chance (Win or Draw)

Reason for tip

Only Inter Milan and Roma have beaten Verona in their eight games under Marco Zaffaroni. Having conceded 29 goals in their first 15 games of the league season, the hosts have shipped just five in their last eight. Meanwhile, Fiorentina in winless in six Serie A games.

Draw 1-1

Reason for tip

Fiorentina have taken just nine of their 25 points this term on the road, while Verona are yet to lose on their own turf since changing manager. However, the Viola did beat the Gialloblu earlier this season, so they may be set for a low-scoring draw. None of Verona’s eight games under Marco Zaffaroni have contained three goals.

Verona vs Fiorentina Predictions

  • Verona have only lost two of their last eight games, against Serie A heavyweights Inter Milan and Roma.
  • Fiorentina, meanwhile, are without a victory in six league matches – a run dating back to January 7th.
  • Verona are unbeaten in their four home games under Marco Zaffaroni, winning three times and drawing with Lazio.

Can Gialloblu make home a fortress?

Verona’s prospects of avoiding relegation looked bleak when Marco Zaffaroni became head coach in December, with the Gialloblu losing 10 successive league games prior to the World Cup and seemingly on course to join fellow strugglers Cremonese and Sampdoria in slipping out of Serie A. However, a decent run of form under their new boss – particularly at home – has raised hopes of a great escape, and Monday’s clash with a Fiorentina team possessing other priorities may represent an opportunity.

Indeed, only Serie A heavyweights Roma and Inter have beaten Verona in their last eight games, and they are yet to taste defeat on their own ground in 2023, beating Cremonese, Lecce and Salernitana and drawing with Lazio. Remarkably, having conceded a huge 29 goals in their first 15 games of the Serie A season, Verona have shipped just five in eight outings under Zaffaroni, never seeing their defence breached more than once in a single game under the former defender.

Fiorentina maintained their impressive European form with a 3-2 win over Braga in the Europa Conference League on Thursday, sealing a 7-2 aggregate success against the Primeira Liga title contenders. While the Viola’s Coppa Italia run means they have two realistic chances of silverware this campaign, they are without a win in their last six Serie A contests, losing four times in that run, never scoring multiple goals and failing to net three times. The Viola are also poor travellers, and that may not change on Monday.

Resurgent Verona worth a punt?

With Fiorentina taking 16 of their 25 points on the road this season and Verona looking particularly solid since Zaffaroni took charge, backing the hosts for a result on the double chance market looks prudent.

Meanwhile, none of Verona’s eight games under Zaffaroni have contained over 2.5 goals, and another tight affair looks likely – a 1-1 draw could represent a decent correct score prediction.
