Villarreal vs Celta Vigo Predictions
The hosts are a point clear at the top of the table after an outstanding start to the season but they were well below par in their last game, losing for the first time in the league in unlikely circumstances against struggling Levante. They did have Bojan Jokic sent off which goes some way to explaining the defeat but Villarreal haven’t been quite as threatening in recent weeks although results have generally still come.
They have only scored 3 goals in their last 4 matches and are likely to be without top scorer Cédric Bakambu again here. Adrian, Denis Suarez, Sergio Asenjo and Mateo Musacchio are all also suffering from injuries while Jokic will serve his suspension in this game.
Those absentees should give some encouragement to the visitors, who are yet to lose this season. What’s more they’ve saved their best performances for the big games against sides who you’d expect to do well. They were impressive 2-1 winners at Sevilla, one of the toughest places to go in Spain while they backed that up with a crushing 4-1 demolition of Barcelona back in Galicia.
Those sort of results will give them plenty of confidence that they can get something out of this game and Celta Vigo look good value at 5/6 to extend their unbeaten start to 8 matches in this one.
They’d probably be content with a point though against a side they may be competing with for European places at the end of the season. Villarreal don’t lose often at home but with a dynamic forward line of Nolito and Iago Aspas, who have netted 9 times between them already this term, you can certianly see Vigo scoring at some point in the game.
The hosts have looked strong defensively though so the visitors will have to work hard to create their openings and this game could well end level at 1-1, a result which wouldn’t be a disaster for either manager. You can back that to be the case at 11/2.
