Villarreal vs Deportivo La Coruna Predictions
Villarreal secured 4th place last weekend when they impressively won 2-0 at Valencia. It means they will be in the Champions League next season having put a fine domestic campaign together. However their week took a turn for the worse on Thursday when they were beaten 3-0 at Anfield to exit the Europa League at the semi-final stage. They won’t have had long to pick themselves up ahead of this game and we could well see plenty of changes with some fresh legs coming in. Villarreal have regularly rotated their league team in recent weeks so it shouldn’t have a catastrophic effect on them.
These are worrying times for Depor fans, who were celebrating what looked their strongest side for many years when they were flying high in the early weeks of the season. However a run of just 1 win in 22 matches in all competitions has seen them gradually fall down the league and with 2 games to go, suddenly they are in danger of going down. They could have secured their safety last weekend but were beaten 2-0 at home by fellow strugglers Getafe. They do have a 4 point cushion on the bottom 3 but have by far the toughest final two games of the sides in the relegation scrap. After this trip to Villarreal, they host Real Madrid on the final day and the way they are playing it’s hard to see them getting any points from that match.
Although they’ve not been winning, Depor have though managed to grind out 1-1 draws in all of their last 3 away games and 5 of their last 8 away matches have finished like that. A point here would be a massive result for Depor and could prove the difference between safety and relegation and with Villarreal perhaps carrying a few tired bodies and not having a great deal to play for, they may well get it. Therefore backing this to finish in a 1-1 draw at 5/1 might be the way to go.
