Villarreal can impress at home again

An opening win over Real Oviedo saw Villarreal stretch their winning run at Estadio de la Ceramica to five matches, and they can earn another home victory at the expense of Girona.

Villarreal finished fifth last season, winning 20 games and losing eight, while Girona were 17th with 11 wins and 19 defeats.

After finishing the previous campaign with three defeats from four matches, Girona could not break their losing run in their opener, going down 3-1 to Rayo Vallecano despite being priced up as 13/10 favourites.

The visitors have looked vulnerable at the back, failing to keep a clean sheet in 18 of their last 20 Primera Liga games.

With that in mind, Villarreal will expect to get on the scoresheet here, having scored in nine of their last ten league games. They have also only lost one of their last seven head-to-heads with Girona.

Villarreal may be able to edge out Girona in a closely-fought game, with a 2-1 home win the correct-score pick.

Over 2.5 goals was a winning bet in 25 of Villarreal’s 38 Primera Liga games last season, and they have won five of the last seven meetings with Girona by a single goal.
