Villarreal vs Granada Predictions

Villarreal come into this match in a poor run of form and without a win in 6 games, which offers more hope to Granada than if they had visited earlier in the season. The Yellow Submarine still boast the best defensive record in the division but have looked more vulnerable in recent matches which suggests there could be a goal in this for the visitors.

It’s now just 1 clean sheet in 7 matches for Villarreal who were surprisingly beaten 2-0 at home by local rivals Valencia on Monday night. They haven’t collected maximum points in La Liga since before Christmas so confidence is clearly a bit of an issue and they’ve just started making a few silly mistakes at the back, with a goalkeeping howler leading to one of Valencia’s 2 goals last time out.

Granada have just 1 win all season in the league and are 8 points off safety at the midway point in the campaign. That position means that draws really aren’t much use to them and the time has surely come where they’re going to have to try and take a few risks to rack up some wins, the only way they could realistically pull themselves clear of trouble. They’ve netted at least 1 goal in 8 of their last 11 matches in all competitions so they’ve been a bit more threatening in front of goal of late at least, but at the other end you can never rely on them to keep things quiet.

The Andalusian club have conceded a massive 3.1 goals per game on their travels this season. That figure alone points towards a home win being the most likely outcome here as does their return of just 0.30 points per game on their travels, the worst record in the league. Villarreal, who have won 60% of their home games, should create plenty of chances and it’s a good opportunity for their attacking players to rediscover their form. Of them, Nicola Sansone has been the most threatening, with 7 league goals this term and backing Sansone to score anytime at 11/10 looks to offer value here.

Both teams have scored in a massive 80% of Granada’s away games though and with Villarreal not at their best defensively right now, there is certainly potential for goals at both ends in this game. Therefore, backing Both Teams to Score at 6/5 looks like the value bet here.
