VVV Venlo vs Roda JC Predictions
Roda could still drag themselves out of the relegation zone before the season comes to a close, but with such a poor goal difference they are probably going to need more points than Breda to pull off their great escape. As things stand Roda sit three points behind Breda and really need a win this weekend and for results elsewhere to go in their favour. VVV provide the opposition in Sunday’s penultimate round of Eredivisie games, but their poor run of form meant they limped to the points tally needed to retain their top flight status. Realistically, considering their form, VVV can’t be expecting to finish any higher than twelve and could even drop to fourteenth this weekend if Willem II better their own result.
When the two clubs met for the first time this season, hosts Roda were reduced to ten men and ended up narrowly losing 1-0. The first half didn’t produce many talking points, though visitors VVV had more of the ball and looked the more likely to score. The second forty-five began in a similar fashion with VVV looking much better than their hosts in the final third. Eventually the visitors pressure produced the only goal of the game from Leemans in the seventy-sixth minute, and insult was added to injury in the final ten minutes as Roda had Auassar sent-off for a straight red card offence.
Roda may have lost last time, but they head into Sunday’s latest encounter with VVV as the clear form favourites. The visitors have won three of their last six matches, drawing once and losing the other two, which is a great deal better than VVV’s last six results which have produced a single draw and five defeats. Roda’s recent record against VVV will give them even more hope of a victory on Sunday, as the visitors have won four of their last six against the Venlo club. VVV have conceded fifteen goals in their last six matches, while Roda have scored ten during that same period. The home sides poor form and terrible recent defensive record will surely only proivde a boost in confidence for Sunday’s visitors, especially as Roda need all three points if they are to avoid finishing in the relegation play-off places.
Leemans, who scored the winner when the pair last met, top scores for VVV with ten league goals so far this season, while German teammate Thy has seven. Swedish attacker Simon Gustafson leads the way in front of goal for Roda with nine Eredivisie goals to his name, and he is closely followed by Schahin on eight goals.
We’re confident that Roda will continue their decent run of form with a victory at VVV on Sunday. The visitors have form and history in their favour, and we expect their extra desire for the points to show in the form of what could prove to be a huge win. In terms of a final score, we’re going with a comfortable 2-0 win for the visitors as Roda have looked great going forward and their hosts have been terrible at the back of late.
