Watford vs Tottenham Hotspur Predictions
- Watford have lost their last five games.
- Both teams to score has landed in each of Watford’s last six games and they haven’t managed a clean sheet in the league all season.
- Spurs are unbeaten in seven Premier League games and have won four of their last five.
- Watford have conceded 2.67 goals per-game on average over their last six home fixtures.
Spurs looking for rare away success
Tottenham have definitely improved since Antonio Conte took charge but results away from home remain a concern ahead of their New Year’s Day trip to Watford.
Spurs have five wins and just one defeat in their last eight games in all competitions and all of those victories have come at home, but the trip to Vicarage Road does look like a real opportunity to claim a rare three-point haul on their travels.
The Hornets returned to action on Tuesday after an 18-day coronavirus enforced break. Watford don’t seem to have benefitted from that time off though, as they were beaten 4-1 by a West Ham side who were playing for the third time in six days and went into the fixture on the back of a five-game winless run.
Both sides have injury concerns but Watford are clearly worse off in that regard. Boss Claudio Ranieri will be without Ismaila Sarr, Christian Kabasele, Ben Foster, Peter Etebo, Nicolas N’Koulou, Kwadwo Baah, Danny Rose and Tom Cleverley, while Kiko Femenia was forced off in the defeat to the Hammers and may miss out.
For Spurs, quartet Steven Bergwijn, Giovani Lo Celso, Ryan Sessegnon and Cristian Romero are unavailable.
A Spurs win with BTTS has value
Watford have lost their last five games but they have at least scored in all of those defeats and with in-form Emmanuel Dennis yet to depart for the AFCON with Nigeria they still carry a goal threat despite their woeful form. Both teams have scored in each of Watford’s last six fixtures, and they have only failed to score in three of their nine home assignments in the Premier League so far.
The Hornets haven’t kept a clean sheet all season though and that is their real issue, and with Spurs finding their feet in attack they can outgun their hosts on Saturday. Tottenham are averaging 2.2 goals per-game over their last five league games, and despite the fact four of those have been at home that still suggests they should have too much going forward for this porous Watford defence on Saturday.
The Hornets have conceded 16 goals in their last 6 home games, an average of 2.67 per-game, and as such an away win with both teams to score looks a strong option for our main bet and a 3-1 win for Spurs is the pick in the correct score market.
In-form Dennis the standout anytime scorer pick
Watford may be toiling, but forward Dennis is enjoying his football right now and at a big price is worth a mention for an anytime goal on New Year’s Day. The 24-year-old opened the scoring against West Ham last time out to register his eighth league goal of the campaign – and six of those have come in his last eight appearances.
Dennis has found a way through against the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea during his current spree, and can grab a goal against a Spurs side who have just one clean sheet in their last six Premier League games away from home.
- Both teams have found the net in five of Watford’s last seven Premier League home games.
- Eight of the last ten of Watford’s Premier League games have produced over 2.5 goals.
