Wellington Phoenix vs Brisbane Roar Betting Tips

Wellington Phoenix began the new Hyundai A-League campaign with a very disappointing home loss to last season’s bottom placed team Newcastle Jets.

They did manage to bounce back with a win over Perth Glory, but they will still be disappointed at not getting three points against the Jets.

Phoenix have made a few transfers during the off season in an attempt to improve on their 4^th placed finish last season.

Dylan Fox, Troy Danaskos, and Blake Powell all make the move to the A-League from other Australian based clubs, whilst ex-Ajax attacking midfielder Jeffrey comes in after being released by NAC Breda.

Brisbane Roar have started the season with (forgive the terrible pun) a roar. They have won both of their A-League games so far and sit at the top of the table going into gameweek three.

Former Perth Glory striker Jamie Maclaren got his Brisbane Roar career off to a flyer by scoring a brace in his league debut, helping his team to a 3-1 win over Western Sydney Wanderers in the opening game of the season.

Brandon Borello, who has just been promoted to the senior Brisbane Roar team, was the standout performer in their next game. He scored both goals in a 2-1 win over Central Coast Mariners to add to a promising looking Brisbane Roar attack.

Things have been very even between these sides in recent years. Brisbane Roar used to be dominant in the fixture, but the last five meetings have seen Brisbane Roar win three times and Wellington Phoenix take the points twice.

Interestingly, all of these five matches have produced three or more goals. Add to this the fact that the combined four league matches these teams have played this season have all ended with Over 2.5 goals, and that looks like a good looking bet.

Odds of 8/11 for this outcome look good value as well, so that’s what I’m backing along with a 2-1 Brisbane Roar win at 10/1.
