Werder Bremen vs Borussia Monchengladbach Predictions

Werder Bremen should have known it would be a difficult start to the season when they were taken to extra time by Wurzburger Kickers in the DFP Pokal at the start of the month.

They overcame them eventually and came away 2-0 victors, but then had to face a visit from the much stronger Schalke. They walked away with a comprehensive 3-0 victory against the home side.

It did get a bit better last weekend when they fought back from an early Hertha Berlin goal to grab a point from the home side.

They are still winless in the Bundesliga so far though. But not to worry, their opponents are as well. Borussia Monchengladbach have incurred back to back league defeats to start their campaign off.

Their 4-0 loss to Borussia Dortmund isn’t as humiliating as it looks, as the Dortmund side are wiping out anyone in their path at the moment.

However, a 2-1 loss at home to Mainz isn’t acceptable really. They had a lot of possession in this match, but failed to capitalise on it. They did have more shots on target than Mainz, but they didn’t have a clinical nature in front of goal.

Borussia Monchengladbach have a slight advantage of Werder Bremen in terms of historic results. Werder Bremen have only won once in their last 6 meetings, a 3-2 victory at home in a friendly.

Apart from that, Monchengladbach have won 3 Bundesliga matches and drawn twice against them since 2013.

Werder Bremen seem to be struggling in front of goal at the moment, with a goalless 90 minutes against Wurzburger Kickers, failing to score against Schalke, and finally getting one against Hertha Berlin but failing to build on it.

Monchengladbach illustrated their shortcomings in front of goal against Mainz last weekend, and could find no way past the Borussia Dortmund defence the week before.

This makes us think that odds of 43/40 for Under 2.5 Match Goals on Sunday are excellent value for money, and we’re also backing a 1-1 draw at 11/2.
