West Ham United vs Sheffield United Predictions
- Under 2.5 goals have been scored in each of the last three meetings between West Ham and Sheffield United.
- Sheffield United are the Premier League’s second lowest scorers this season with 15 goals.
- West Ham have scored one or fewer goals in three of their last four matches.
- Sheffield United have notched one or fewer goals in all but one of their away games this term.
Hammers squad stretched thin
West Ham have numerous injury problems to contend with ahead of their encounter with bottom club Sheffield United on Monday evening, and the depleted Irons could struggle against the improving Blades as a result.
David Moyes watched on as his team were beaten 1-0 by his former employers in an FA Cup game of few chances at Old Trafford in midweek, though injuries to defender Angelo Ogbonna and his replacement Issa Diop compounded the Scot’s miserable evening against Man Utd.
Andriy Yarmolenko also had to be withdrawn with a knee complaint, and with Michail Antonio doubtful and Sebastian Haller now at Ajax, West Ham’s options look thread bare in attack.
Blades maintain momentum
Sheffield United enjoyed their midweek FA Cup endeavours by eliminating Bristol City at Bramall Lane, and the Blades’ narrow victory was their sixth win in nine matches in all competitions.
United needed a second half Billy Sharp spot-kick to see off the Robins, though goals from open play remain in short supply. Chris Wilder’s side have notched one or fewer times in 20 of their 23 Premier League assignments overall this season.
Game of few chances likely in London
Under 2.5 goals backers were rewarded in each of the last three meetings between West Ham and Sheffield United, and the same market appeals for their latest tussle on Monday.
Only Burnley (14) have plundered fewer league goals than Sheffield United (15) this season, while West Ham, who failed to score in each of their last two games, are a different animal without the running power and skill of Michail Antonio.
With Diop, Ogbonna and Balbuena all struggling to be fit, West Ham also have a major selection headache at the back to overcome, and the Blades will feel they are traveling to the London Stadium at an opportune time this week.
With a favourable set of circumstances to take advantage off, our 1-0 correct score prediction backs Sheffield United to eke out their fourth Premier League victory of the campaign against their injury hit hosts
West Ham injuries and team news
Angelo Ogbonna was forced off injured in midweek, as was his replacement against Man Utd, Issa Diop.
Aaron Cresswell may have to move inside from left-back on Monday as a result, especially if Fabian Balbuena doesn’t recover from a calf problem in time.
Andriy Yarmolenko also came off injured at Old Trafford, while key attacker Michail Antonio is also a doubt. Available again loanee Jesse Lingard could be pushed further forward with options in the final third looking thin.
Sheffield United injuries and team news
Sander Berge, Jack O’Connell and Jack Robinson remain sidelined for the Blades, while Enda Stevens and George Baldock are rated as doubtful.
