Reason For Western Sydney Wanderers vs Newcastle Jets Predictions

  • Western Sydney Wanderers ended a run of three defeats by beating Central Coast last weekend.
  • Newcastle Jets have picked up four point in two games having previously lost seven from their last eight.
  • Western Sydney have scored just 17 goals in 15 games this season, an average of 1.13 goals per game.
  • Newcastle Jets have also scored 17 goals but have played 16 games, averaging 1.06 goals per game.

Can Western Sydney Wanderers build on their win last weekend?

Western Sydney Wanderers were unable to build on a good start to their A-League season and went on a disastrous run that saw them lose eight in ten and fall out of the finals series places. They were able to find a win against Central Coast last weekend and this saw them cut the gap to the top six to just five points.

Wanderers haven’t enjoyed much success in front of goal this season, scoring just 17 goals and they’ve only managed to score two or more in a game on five occasions with their front line seriously misfiring so far. Defensively they haven’t performed too badly but they will be keen to bring their average of 1.46 goals conceded per game down slightly.

Will The Jets finally climb off the foot of the table?

A combination of a poor result for Central Coast on Friday and a positive on for Newcastle in this game will see The Jets rise from the foot of the table for the first time in weeks. The side won a thrilling game against The Mariners 4-3 last weekend and with a 0-0 draw with Western United prior to that, Newcastle will be hoping they are able to build some form.

The side have also only scored 17 goals this season but have played one more game than their opponents this weekend meaning Newcastle have only averaged 1.06 goals per game this season. They’ve also been the weakest side defensively, conceding 34 goals in 16 games and conceding two or more on 10 separate occasions.

Who wins the battle at Spotless Stadium?

These two sides have had disappointing seasons so far with just eight wins between them and it’s hard to give either team the edge this weekend. Both teams will be looking to win the game but neither team has shown much killer instinct in the final third so we’re predicting that the 2.5 goal line will fail to be beaten in this game.

With that initial prediction in our minds we think that this low scoring game will see the two sides cancel each other out. Both teams should have chances so we’re backing this game to finish 1-1 with neither team having the ability to find the edge in the final third to claim all three points.
