A small patch of fairly poor form a few weeks ago allowed Brisbane Roar to snatch the top spot in the Hyundai A-League off Western Sydney Wanderers, but the previous leaders have managed to get back to form and not allow Brisbane Roar to put together too much of a lead.

Western Sydney Wanderers are currently occupying 2^nd position in the A-League and are just a point behind Brisbane Roar, also holding a game in hand on them. A win on Sunday would see them regain the top spot again.

They could only manage a draw against Melbourne Victory last weekend though, a result which took their recent form record to two wins, two defeats, and a draw. But this record belies the quality they have been showing for much of the season.

These two defeats were their first losses since October, and during that run they went on an impressive seven match winning streak.

Wellington Phoenix would kill for one of these runs right now. They haven’t won since the start of December and come into this game having lost seven of their nine games since then.

All of their last four matches have been defeats, including an embarrassing loss at home to Central Coast Mariners, who hadn’t won away from home in the A-League in over two years.

Unsurprisingly, this terrible form has seen them go into freefall in the A-League table, and they now sit in 9^th position. They are four points ahead of bottom of the table Central Coast Mariners, but thanks to their defeat last weekend are now four points behind 8^th placed Newcastle Jets.

Five of Wellingon Phoenix’ last six defeats have been by more than one goal, and visiting an impressive Western Sydney Wanderers could see them lose comfortable once again.
