Wolfsburg to bite back

While Wolfsburg are currently enduring their worst Bundesliga campaign in memory, they have a perfect opportunity to end their longest winless run since 2009/10 as they welcome rock-bottom Furth, a side who picked up their sole away point in their most recent trip to Bielefeld.

Fans may have been incensed at the clubs decision to sell talismanic forward Wout Weghorst in the January window, though Jonas Wind came in on deadline day and will hope to make a running start as he finally enters Europe’s top-five divisions from Copenhagen.

There were encouraging signs for Wolfsburg in their last home league game as they held Hertha Berlin to a goalless draw, so any improvement on that will surely end in victory. Anything less than that could be catastrophic, as the Wolfs remain in touching distance of the drop zone.

Furth will take encouragement from their recent draw away from home, though it is more than likely that they will revert to expectations as the gap between themselves and safety is a yawning one.

Furth have scored a meagre 0.8 goals per-match on average in away league games this season while allowing a league-high average of 3.6! As such, I think that the hosts will end their rotten run in what is on paper, the easiest fixture they will face this term.
