Wolverhampton vs Sunderland Predictions
- Wolves have conceded in six consecutive games
- Sunderland have conceded in nine of their last 11 away games
- Sunderland have seven points from their last four away games
Little at stake at Molineux
Wolves entertain Sunderland on Saturday in what is close to a dead-rubber Premier League fixture.
The hosts know they will be playing in the Championship next season and avoiding the ignominy of finishing bottom of the pile is their only real motivation.
Sunderland still have an outside chance of qualifying for Europe for next season in their first campaign back in the top flight, but that has done little to inspire them in recent weeks as they have four defeats in their last six games.
Goals at both ends the starting point
Sunderland are the more likely winners but after a limp display in a 5-0 hammering to Nottingham Forest at home last time out backing the visitors with our main bet holds little appeal. Instead, the best option looks to be backing both of these leaky defences to concede.
Wolves have gone six games without a clean sheet across all competitions and have shipped 10 goals in their last four games.
Sunderland have managed just two shut-outs in their last 11 away games and have shipped nine goals in their last two games.
The Black Cats have scored in six of their last eight league games so they should be able to find a way through the league’s second worst defence. Wolves have gone three games without scoring but have been more effective at home, drawing a blank in just one of their last six at Molineux.
Sunderland can leave with the spoils
Wolves put in a reasonable display in defeat to Tottenham last time out but still came up short and Sunderland look the more likely winners on Saturday.
The Wearsiders have three wins in their last six away from home across all competitions and may be able to claim maximum points. A 2-1 win for the visitors is the pick as all of their road wins this season have come via one-goal margins and Wolves concede on average just under two goals per-game.
As an outside bet, an anytime goal for visiting midfielder Granit Xhaka has a chance. The Swiss international has only managed one Premier League goal this season but did have a couple of chances against Forest and was one of the few Sunderland players to show any real quality in that game so he may be able to double his tally at Molineux.
