Wolves vs Derby County Predictions
Wolves are still hunting for the right man to replace Walter Zenga with Paul Lambert currently the bookies favourite. The former Villa, Norwich and Blackburn boss has a solid record in this division and could be the man to lift this Wolves side that is now without a win in 6 games. If they could get a man in place in time for this game it would be a bonus but,if not, caretaker boss Rob Edwards guided the side to a point at Blackburn last time out and should be a safe pair of hands.
This is likely to be a low-scoring contest, with Wolves having bagged just 1 goal from open play in their last 4 matches while Derby have the worst goal-scoring record in the division with only 0.6 goals per game on average this season. It’s certainly very hard to see either side running away with this, so it promises to be a very close game and Wolves are only slight favourites with the bookies.
The Rams have been tough to beat since Nigel Pearson left the club, losing just 1 of their last 6 matches. They’ve only conceded 2 goals in those fixtures since the former Leicester boss was sent packing and Steve McClaren has made a pretty good start, although they still look a little short in the final third. Their 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday last weekend was their best result of the season but both goals were scored by defenders so clearly all is not well up top and Matej Vydra remains their top scorer with just 2 goals.
Wolves’ home record and Derby’s away record this season is identical with 2 wins, 2 draws and 3 defeats each so there is just very little to split the sides and it’s hard to make a strong case for either side winning it. Derby are perhaps marginally the more likely victors, given their form is better but Wolves have reason to believe they will only need to score once to get a result here. So backing the Draw at 12/5 looks to offer value here.
