Wrexham vs Birmingham Predictions

• Both of these teams have opened their Championship season with two draws
• Birmingham are unbeaten in seven league games
• Wrexham have lost only two of their last eight Championship home matches 

Cagey clash on the cards

A clash the tabloids love to call the Hollywood derby should really provide bags of excitement. However, the starts to the season of Ryan Reynolds-backed Wrexham and Tom Brady-funded Birmingham have been anything but silver-screen worthy and Friday’s battle at the Racecourse may be one of attrition as a result. 

Both have opened the Championship season with a pair of stalemates and the second tier’s draw specialists could be hard to split. 

Wrexham have been held by Watford and Welsh rivals Cardiff while Birmingham’s draws have come against Sheffield United and Bristol City. 

Really, given their big spending over the past few seasons and the level of their opponents, this pair should have six points on the board. That suggests something is amiss in both camps, and neither are expected to get their nose in front by Friday. 

Familiar foes set for another stalemate 

By virtue of their first-round loss to Middlesbrough in the EFL Cup, Wrexham will be fresher than their visitors, but Birmingham have been difficult to beat in the league of late, going seven Championship games without a defeat . 

The Blues were comfortably beaten by Brentford in the EFL Cup second round on Tuesday but Chris Davies rotated and there is no shame in losing to a Bees side which hammered Tottenham 3-0 just a few days earlier. 

These sides are very familiar with each other, having been promoted from League One together, and a third draw in four head-to-heads is a likely outcome at the Racecourse.
