Wycombe Wanderers vs Sunderland Predictions
- Sunderland are unbeaten in four of their five League One clashes with Wycombe.
- Wycombe failed to win five of their last seven home games, failing to score in three.
- Sunderland are unbeaten in nine consecutive League One matches (W6, D3).
- Sunderland were winning at both HT/FT in five of their last seven league games.
A top-class League One encounter awaits
Saturday’s League One action kicks off with arguably the pick of the games, as two of the favourites for promotion come head-to-head for the sixth time at this level. The hosts could be cut seven points adrift of Sunderland with defeat, so this really is a bona fide ‘six pointer’.
The Chairboys failed to keep a clean sheet in seven of their last eight home league games, and that is something that they may need to do here against a Black Cats side that are showing their claws with a return of eight goals across their last two games.
While only four points separate these sides, the fact remains that Wycombe boss has battle scars from his prior encounters with both Sunderland (W1, D2, L2) and his personal clashes with their current manager Lee Johnson (L2). As such, this could be another tough afternoon for the Chairboys.
Black Cats have turned the corner
Simply put, Sunderland have been scintillating across the last five League One rounds – they have scored 16 goals (3.2 on average) while conceding only twice in reply. Here, they will look to translate that form into a first league win at Adams Park.
Records are made to be broken, and that is exactly what Sunderland did to Sheffield Wednesday last time out as they ended their 12-game unbeaten run of league games. As such, I predict that Sunderland will win this clash of in-form sides with a small play on a 2-1 win in the correct score market.
