Galatasaray can make their experience count

Galatasaray were missing from European competition last season but look in a good place under Okan Buruk and should see off Zalgiris in the first leg of their Champions League second qualifying round tie on Tuesday.

Lithuanians Zalgiris battled past Macedonian outfit Struga in the Champions League first qualifying round and are flying in their top division, having picked up 16 wins from 23 matches.

But it is worth noting that the Lithuanian top division is 38th in the UEFA league rankings, whereas the Turkish Super Lig in which Galatasaray ply their trade is 12th.

Therefore there should be a decent gulf between the two teams and Galatasaray are worth a bet to justify favouritism at the LFF Stadium.

Galatasaray were crowned Turkish Super Lig champions last season with 28 wins from 36 league matches and their squad is getting stronger with Nicolo Zaniolo having arrived midway through last season, Cedric Bakambu putting pen to paper this week and Wilfried Zaha the latest to have been linked with a move to Istanbul.

They can make their added experience count but it could be a cagey affair with Zalgiris having conceded only 15 goals in their league this season and conceding just one goal across the two legs of their last qualifying tie with Struga.
