Zimbabwe vs Tunisia Predictions
Tunisia only need a point here to book their place in the next round after they surprisingly beat North African rivals Algeria last time out. Up against the weakest team in the group, they ought to get at least that but Zimbabwe have shown enough to suggest they won’t run away with it.
The confidence they’d have taken from beating Algeria, one of the tournament favourites, will have done wonders for the morale of a side that wasn’t really expected by many to get out of the group. They have produced when it has mattered though in recent times and are well placed to progress to the 2018 World Cup too, following victories in their opening two group games against Guinea and Libya at the end of last year.
This is their 13th straight African Cup of Nations appearance, which is a record and that big stage experience could also be a big factor here against a Zimbabwe side that haven’t qualified for the competition since 2006. They’ve rarely faced the strongest sides in the continent since then and although they’ve put up a decent showing so far in this tournament, you have to wonder how they’ll cope with the pressure of a crunch deciding game and one they have to win, to stand a chance of progression.
They were slow out of the blocks in their last game against Senegal and were 2-0 down inside 15 minutes, which effectively killed the game. Tunisia may be a bit short on star quality but they are a well-organised side and one that had kept clean sheets in 7 out of 10 games coming into this tournament. Zimbabwe don’t possess the same sort of firepower as the other teams in this group so it should be a quieter day for the Tunisian defence.
At the other end they should have just enough to get them the win here and their extra experience could be a big factor, particularly if this game is level going into the closing stages, when Zimbabwe will need to take a few risks and go for it. Therefore, backing Tunisia to win at 4/6 looks the best approach.
