Alfreton Town vs Fleetwood Town Predictions

On Sunday afternoon, Alfreton, who ply their trade in the National League North, will be hoping to advance to the second round of this famous competition for just the third time in their history, though to do that they’ll need to overcome a Fleetwood side that is currently operating three divisions higher.

Having come through three preliminary rounds, Alfreton won’t want their FA Cup journey to end at the first round, though their recent record isn’t great. Sunday’s hosts did reach the second round back in 2013, though they’ve since failed to make it past this stage since. Furthermore, the Reds don’t exactly come into this fixture in sparkling form, as they’ve won just one of their last five matches, while they’re now without a win in four in the National League North.

Even on their own patch, Alfreton have found it tough to collect league wins of late, which doesn’t exactly bode well ahead of a match against League One opponents. Nicky Law’s men have won none of their last three league games at North Street, though they’ve not conceded more than a single goal in any of those.

Fortunately for the hosts, they’re facing a Fleetwood side that hasn’t exactly flourished in recent weeks. Joey Barton’s men have lost three of their last four matches, while they’re finding it especially tough to get going on the road. The League one outfit have lost each of their last three on the road, conceding five goals and scoring none in the process. Such form is not exactly ideal ahead of a potential banana-skin tie.

In truth, Fleetwood’s efforts away from home this season haven’t been great. They’ve not exactly been the most creative side and they’ve found it tough to find the net with regularity, particularly over the last month or so. The Trawlermen are without a goal in three on the road, while they’ve scored in just one of their last five away matches and in just two of their last seven.

With neither the hosts nor the visitors looking particularly menacing in their respective home and away games, the bet that catches the eye at the prices is ‘Under 2.5 Goals’. With the visitors scoring in just one of their last five on the road and with the hosts scoring just one in their last three home games in the league, it’s easy to see a lack of goals at North Street on Sunday afternoon, especially if the sixth-tier hosts opt to keep things tight against what is hardly a free-scoring Fleetwood attack.
