America Mineiro vs Flamengo Predictions

Sunday’s Brazilian Serie A action sees America Mineiro and Flamengo going head to head. A close game is expected overall with little action likely to be on show at either end of the pitch.

Hosts America are continuing to run along nicely and look certain to achieve the aim they had set at the start of the season; avoiding an immediate return to the second tier. An excellent 2-0 win at Sport in midweek moved Coelho up into the top half and currently 6 points above the drop zone, Adilson Batista’s troops can perhaps even begin to set their sights a little higher.

Having lost just 1 of their last 6 matches, winning 3 times in the process, confidence is really flowing in home ranks at the moment and they’ll be looking to maintain performance levels on a home surface they’ve looked strong on all season. Whilst they’ve only recently started showing some resolve on the road, America have been a tough nut to crack at the Estádio Independência all campaign, something reflected in the fact they’ve lost just 2 of their 10 home matches so far in league action.

Meanwhile, Flamengo had started the season in scintillating form but have been rather inconsistent in recent weeks. Mengao were previously sitting pretty at the top of the table but now find themselves in 3rd, two points short of leaders Sao Paulo after winning just 3 of their last 6 league outings.

Maurício Barbieri’s men picked up a much needed, gritty 1-0 home victory over struggling Vitoria in midweek to keep them in touching distance with the top spot but could well find three points hard to come by on Sunday, considering they are set to make numerous changes ahead of an important Copa Libertadores match to come on Thursday.

Ultimately, with Flamengo distracted and not playing all that well in recent weeks anyway, America will surely fancy their chances of taking something from a match they’d normally be expected to lose fairly comfortably.

Flamengo are still priced as favourites with the bookies, but we really like the look of backing the draw at what looks to be a very appealing price. America, as mentioned above, are very difficult to beat on their own patch and having drawn 3 of their last 4 home games 0-0, that’s a scoreline we can see being repeated against a Flamengo outfit that has not won in 5 outings on the road; 3 of which ending in draws.
