Liverpool and Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Manchester City have failed to win in four of their last five away matches in all competitions and they may struggle to enhance that record against improving Liverpool. The Reds have had over a week off to prepare for this contest having hammered Newcastle 4-1 at Anfield last Saturday. Each of the last three meetings have seen a win to nil but this could be one occasion that both teams get on the scoresheet.

Liverpool 2-1

Reason for tip

Liverpool have lost just one of their last 16 matches and their slow and steady revival has picked up the pace in recent weeks. The Reds have scored 15 goals across their last four matches, and they have scored two or more in five of their last six. Clean sheets have been slightly harder to come by so don’t rule out a City response in a 2-1 win for the home side.

Hugo Ekitike To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

There are goalscorers all across the pitch in this clash but Reds’ striker Hugo Ekitike is arguably the form forward in the Premier League at the moment so he looks solid anytime goalscorer option. His partnership with Florian Wirtz is starting to become lethal but Ekitike looks the more reliable choice. The Frenchman has bagged 16 goals this term, including three in his last two outings and he could steal the spotlight off City hotshot Erling Haaland.

Liverpool vs Manchester City Predictions

  • Liverpool have lost just one of their last 16 matches.
  • City have failed to win in four of their last five away fixtures.
  • The Reds have scored 15 goals in their last four home outings.

Reds to rock title chasers

Meetings between Liverpool and Manchester City at this stage of the season are usually decisive in the direction of which way the Premier League title will go but City are six points adrift of leaders Arsenal while the Reds are 14 points adrift of top spot at the start of this round of matches.

These two have been way off their normal standards but a high-class pulsating contest can still be expected at Anfield on Sunday with a Liverpool win in which both teams score the prediction.

The last three meetings have finished 3-0 2-0 and 2-0 but neither side are particularly tight at the back right now and goals could flow accordingly.

Liverpool have picked up the pace in recent weeks following their miserable slump through autumn into winter, and they are looking lethal in attack with Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz starting to show why the Reds paid big money for the pair last summer.

City’s talisman Erling Haaland has hit something of a barren spell by his standards, bagging just two goals in his last 12 outings in all competitions, but there plenty around him in sky blue to still pose a threat, so a lively home win looks the best option.

Premier League giants to slug it out

Newcastle struck the first blow in last week’s 4-1 loss at Anfield but the goal only seemed to fire up Liverpool and the Reds were untouchable once they got back on terms just moments later and they will need to recreate that level of performance to see off a City side still smarting from their 2-2 draw at Tottenham.

Pep Guardiola’s men raced into a 2-0 lead at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but fell away alarmingly in the second half to escape with a point when it looked like the home side might nick it.

City’s away form is a concern and they have won just one of their last five matches on the road, and Anfield is not the kind of place to go to improve such records.

However, you can never write off a side as good as City, while Liverpool have shown this season that a bad result could be just around the corner despite a few good results.

The Citizens have failed to score in just of their last 11 away fixtures, so a 2-1 home win looks a decent correct-score wager.

Hugo too hot to handle

Liverpool look to be finally hitting form at just the right time, and the same can be said for several of their star men including Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz.

The pair have a combined goal contributions total of 31 this season and the pair have linked up for six Premier League goals this season. The most in the league.

Ekitike was unstoppable when bagging a brace against Newcastle last week and Saturday’s makeshift defence, which is bedding in new signing Marc Guehi, may also find the Frenchman too hot to handle this week. He looks an outstanding anytime goalscorer bet.
