Red Star Belgrade vs Liverpool Predictions

Liverpool were pegged back in their visit to Arsenal at the weekend, but can they respond with another big win in the Champions League? The Reds are back on top of the table, in one of the more competitive groups in the competition. Both Napoli and PSG are pushing for a top two finish, but with those two meeting in Naples there’s a huge opportunity for Liverpool on Tuesday. A victory in this visit to Serbia would strengthen their push for a last 16 place, but can they rack up the goals at Red Star?

The hosts were beaten 4-0 in their trip to Anfield last month, leaving them bottom of the group with a single point to their name. They’re not getting involved in the scrap for the top two, but they can still make a difference. Their 0-0 draw at home to Napoli made an impact, as it could be the difference between second and third for the Italians. Will the hosts be able to cause similar problems for Liverpool on Tuesday?

Liverpool are a side to fear in Europe. Their run to the final last season was a goal-laden affair, and they’ve started in similar form this term. The Reds have scored 48 goals in the Champions League since the start of last season (16 games), the most of any team in the competition. That’s despite scoring just three times in their first two group matches last season. They took things up a gear from the third game onwards, and they’re set to do the same this term as they chase top spot.

The visitors have an impressive record at this stage in Europe. Liverpool have only lost one of their last 11 group stage games in the Champions League (W5 D5), scoring 33 goals in total during this run (an average of 3 per game). Although Red Star managed to hold off Napoli, but the Italians dominated that one, and did everything right, other than finish their chances. We don’t think the hosts will get as lucky this time around, so we expect Liverpool to come away with a comfortable win. We’re backing over 2.5 goals from the visitors, and a 3-0 away victory.

Mo Salah has looked back to his best following the last international break, and he’s set to be a threat in this clash. We see Liverpool getting plenty of joy in front of goal, and their electric front three should play a part in that. Their Egyptian forward has found the net four times in his last four games for the Reds, and five times in five matches for club and country. He opened his tally for the season in Europe with a double against Red Star last time out, and hit 11 goals in this competition last term, including strikes at Porto, Man City and Maribor. We see him scoring here, so Salah is our anytime scorer tip.
