San Jose Earthquakes vs Manchester United Predictions

San Jose Earthquakes take a break from their dreadful form in competitive action to take on Premier League giants Manchester United on Sunday night, and the players will be hoping that a victory over their illustrious opponents can restore some level of confidence to their camp.

Looking at recent results, it certainly doesn’t seem likely. They haven’t won a game since the middle of May and have lost seven of their 11 matches since then. That 3-1 win over Minnesota United is their only victory since March, and they find themselves rock bottom of the MLS Western Conference with just 12 points from their 19 matches.

Obviously Manchester United won’t be at full strength or fitness on Sunday, but their squad still boasts a wealth of talent. Romelu Lukaku, Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford, and Jesse Lingard are among the missing after their World Cup campaigns, but there are still plenty of first team regulars in their ranks.

Jose Mourinho’s men have already been in action this summer too, facing off with Club America on Friday and coming away with a 1-1 draw. That game saw Anthony Martial taking the lone striker role, whilst Juan Mata was out on the right and the midfield had Ander Herrera, Andreas Pereira, and Scott McTominay in there.

We’re likely to see a similar setup against San Jose Earthquakes. Alexis Sanchez’ Visa issues have apparently been resolved, but it’s unknown whether he’ll meet up with the squad in time to play on Sunday. Either way, Mourinho will want to get some level of fitness back into the players before their International Champions Cup match against AC Milan next week.

Given San Jose Earthquakes’ form we’re expecting a Manchester United win, but their defence doesn’t exactly emanate stability in these friendlies. They have conceded in six of their eight friendly matches since last summer, and Earthquakes have scored in five of their last six outings. We’re backing a Manchester United Win and Both Teams to Score, along with a 2-1 correct score predictions.
