A historic European qualifying campaign for the home nations with Northern Ireland and Wales joining England in France 2016 so far. Republic of Ireland will have a play off game to see if they can become the fourth home nation to make it. So far 19 countries have qualified automatically and will join the hosts France. Four play off ties will be played to determine the remaining four places in France.

Automatic Qualifiers

France

The hosts qualify automatically and have played 13 friendlies since losing 1-0 to Germany in the World Cup. They’ve managed to win eight including some impressive wins over Portugal, Sweden and Serbia.

England

Roy Hodgson’s men become ‘The England Invincibles‘ after winning all ten qualifying matches. This was the first time in history and England side has won all European qualifiers.

Wales

Led by superstar Gareth Bale the red dragons qualified for their first major tournament since the 1958 world cup in Sweden where they were knocked out by a goal from 17 year old Pele.

Northern Ireland

The green and white army reached their first major tournament in 30 years since 1986 World Cup in Mexico. The squad currently has seven Premier League regulars in so they may spring a few more surprises in France if they are continued to be underestimated.

Czech Republic

Winners of Group A the Czech Republic continued their run of qualifying for every European tournament since 1996. They capped off their qualifying campaign with a 3-2 victory over Holland.

Iceland

The runners up in Group A sprung some surprises during qualifying with victories over both Holland and Turkey. Swansea City’s Gylfi Sigurdsson is their star man and netted six goals during qualifying

Turkey

Finished as the best third place team thanks to a stunning free kick from Selcuk Inan to defeating Iceland 1-0 in their final match.

Belgium

Winners of Group B the Belgian side stand out as one of the fancied outsiders in France with a squad full of world class talent. The big question is can they deliver on the big stage next summer.

Spain

The reigning champions won group C and are currently 6/1 third favourites to go all the way. A decent price for a team who won 9 out of 10 qualifying games.

Slovakia

Runners up in Group C behind Spain after a 4-2 victory over Luxembourg in their final game. This sent Ukraine into a playoff spot after losing 1-0 at home to a weakened Spain team.

Germany

Despite losing matches to Poland and Republic of Ireland the Germans managed to win Group D. They are currently tournament favourites at a best price 7/2.

Poland

Group D runners up after beating Republic of Ireland in their final game. A mammoth 13 goals from qualifying top scorer Robert Lewandoski, a huge 66/1 could tempt a few punters surely?

Switzerland

Group E runners up behind England even if they did lose their first two games. Will need to perform better in France to have any hope of progressing.

Romania

Romania conceded just two goals during their whole qualifying campaign which led them to be Group F runners up.

Austria

First appearance in the finals if you ignore their hosting in 2008.  Unbeaten during this campaign led them to winning Group G, won 9 and drew 1 with Marc Janko netting 7 times.

Russia

Runners up in Group G behind Austria after sending Sweden to the playoffs. Top scorer Artyom Dzyuba finished with 8 goals leaving him among the top scorers.

Italy

The Group H winners also went unbeaten in qualifiers winning 7 and drawing 3. Surprisingly sit at 16/1 to win the tournament outright, although they will be drawn in pot two.

Croatia

Runners up in Group H behind Italy, they only lost one game which was away in Norway. A talented squad and shouldn’t be underestimated in France.

Portugal

Started off with a shocking loss against Albania but went on to win seven straight games to win Group I. Led by Cristiano Ronaldo, say no more.

Albania

The Group I runners up have reached the finals of a major tournament for the first time in their history. Their qualifying campaign included a 1-0 away victory over Portugal.

Play Offs

The draw for the play offs will take place on 18th October and the first legs will be played on the 12-14th November and second legs 15-17th November. The eight teams have been split into two groups seeded and non-seeded teams based on their latest UEFA national team coefficient rankings.

The Draw

The group stage draw for the finals will take place on 12th December. The coefficient rankings announced after qualifying decided seedings for the play off draw. There will be another set of rankings released after the play offs to determine the rest of the pots for the group stage draw.
