With the Premier League and Championship on hold for the international break, our experts have turned their attention to the lower tiers of the English footballing pyramid in a bid to eke out as much value as possible this weekend.

We’re joined by Dan Childs, Steve Davies and Liam Flin, with Dan boasting three wins from his last four tips and both Steve and Liam coming into this weekend off the back of a winning bet on Sunday. FST’s very own Simon Winter, meanwhile, has racked up four winning tips from his last five attempts.

Carlisle vs Cambridge United – Cambridge United double chance at 1/2

Carlisle’s winless streak extended to three matches as they lost at home to Leyton Orient in midweek and the mid-table side have now won just one of their last 12 matches. They haven’t beaten a side currently occupying the playoff spots since a 3-2 triumph over Newport at the start of November and their hopes of making the top seven are fading with every week that passes.

The U’s, on the other hand, still have plenty to play for. They are just a point behind League Two leaders Cheltenham and, after a crucial win over promotion rivals Forest Green last weekend they have now won three of their last four outings.

Cambridge United’s only defeat in this period came to the in-form Bolton, and Carlisle are unlikely to pose anywhere near the same level of threat.

Peterborough vs Accrington Stanley – Peterborough to win at 7/10

Title chasing Peterborough have the strongest home record and are the highest scoring home team in League One this season, and The Posh can flex their muscles on their own patch again when Accrington Stanley visit.

Accy beat relegation threated Wigan last time out, though they were beaten three times on the spin before that, and having lost 4-0 on their last visit to the Weston Homes Stadium, Stanley could be left chasing shadows again.

Forest Green vs Bolton – Bolton to win at 6/4

Bolton have been the best team in League Two in recent months – taking 32 points from their last 12 games – and can strike a massive blow in the promotion race by defeating third-placed Forest Green in Gloucestershire.

The Trotters came from behind to win 2-1 at home to Walsall last Saturday and are only two points outside the automatic promotion slots.

Forest Green have been prominent for much of the season but have been missing key defender Jordan Moore-Taylor and midfielder Ebou Adams (both injured) and have won just one of their last four games.

Liam Flin

Hull vs Gillingham – Hull to win at 4/5

League One highflyers Hull City have put together a six-match unbeaten run since defeat to Ipswich Town at the end of February and they have overcome top-half sides such as Peterborough and Oxford as part of that run.

The Tigers have been dangerous in the final third, firing at least two goals in five of their last six matches, and the likes of Mallik Wilks, Josh Magennis and Keane Lewis-Potter have all been prolific this term.

Gillingham have been fairly solid in England’s third tier but could be out of their depth at the KC Stadium, where Hull have won 11 of their 18 league assignments in 2020-21.

Blackpool vs Plymouth Argyle – Blackpool to win at 7/10

Blackpool and Plymouth are heading in opposite directions in League One and the gulf between them should be emphasised when they clash at Bloomfield Road.

Neil Critchley’s Seasiders have lost just one of 14 in the league and back-to-back wins over Oxford and Peterborough merely confirm they are a force right now.

Argyle, in contrast, have lost five of their last six to plunge into the bottom half of the table and have a woeful away record.
