Season review
Crystal Palace enjoyed a solid season in the Premier League, but the only thing this campaign will be remembered for is their first ever FA Cup win.
The Eagles had never before won a major trophy in their 119 year history so the 2024/25 campaign is their most successful ever to date, having previously fallen short in the FA Cup finals of 1990 and 2016.
Palace overcame League One outfit Stockport County in the third round and then dumped out Doncaster and Millwall. They claimed a comprehensive 3-0 win in an all-Premier League tie with Fulham in the last eight and then produced a minor upset in the semi-finals by seeing off Aston Villa 3-0.
Oliver Glasner’s men went into the final with Manchester City as big underdogs but edged ahead early on through Eberechi Eze. City missed a penalty, and there were no further goals as the south Londoners held on for the most famous victory in the club’s history.
The Eagles will compete in the Europa League for the first time in their history next season thanks to their FA Cup success.
Palace endured a tough start to the Premier League season as they picked up just three points from their opening eight games. They spent five of the first 12 weeks in the drop zone but managed to recover, picking up some huge wins along the way. The Eagles did the league double over M23 Derby rivals Brighton and fellow London outfit Tottenham, while they also won at Old Trafford and claimed points at Anfield and the Emirates Stadium.
Palace ultimately finished the season a respectable 12th in the league with 53 points, and their FA Cup success made this campaign a truly historic one for the London club.
Key stat: Palace’s haul of 53 points was their highest ever in the Premier League.
Transfer window preview
Palace’s key concern this summer will be keeping hold of their star men but they shouldn’t be under too much pressure to cash in, after selling Micheal Olise to Bayern Munich last summer.
Eberechi Eze is widely considered to be a target for Tottenham and Jean-Philippe Mateta has been linked with a host of clubs including Juventus, AC Milan Manchester United and Marseille. Defender Marc Guehi and midfielder Adam Wharton are also likely to attract a bit of interest.
Glasner will be looking to add to his squad in terms of strength in depth ahead of a campaign in Europe next season – and if he is forced to sell any of his top performers replacements will of course be required, so it could be a busy summer at Selhurst Park.
