The first of many midweek rounds of English Football League action is upon us and the season is starting to take shape after three gameweeks.

A quartet of Championship fixtures are scheduled for Wednesday evening, including one involving league-leaders Blackburn, and I have delved into all the individual stats to put together a tasty 18/1 Player Specials acca.

Stoke vs Middlesbrough

Best bet – Chuba Akpom over 0.5 shots on target

Middlesbrough forward Chuba Akpom scored a brace at the weekend and will look to continue his goalscoring form at Stoke on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old has attempted ten shots across four competitive outings this season and has tested the keeper four times. He has hit the target at least once in each of his last three games despite only starting in his latest outing, giving him a shot on target every 57 minutes this season.

Reading vs Blackburn

Best bet – Ben Brereton to score anytime

Ben Brereton scored 22 Championship goals in 34 starts for Blackburn last season and the Chile international has started the new campaign in fine form, scoring in each of his last two outings for Rovers.

Looking back to last season, Brereton has now scored in three of his last four Championship away games and he will be looking to make it three scoring games in a row against a Reading side that shipped four at Rotherham on Saturday to make it eight goals conceded in four competitive outings this term.

Sheffield United vs Sunderland

Best bet – Corry Evans to be booked

Sunderland midfielder Corry Evans has certainly made his presence known since returning to the Championship with Sunderland, picking up a booking in all three of their games so far.

The 32-year-old was Sunderland’s second-most carded player in their successful League One campaign last term and now comes up against a Sheffield United side that have seen their opponents booked eight times in three league games so far this season.

West Brom vs Cardiff

Best bet – John Swift over 0.5 shots on target

John Swift scored West Brom’s first goal of the season away to Middlesbrough and while the 27-year-old is yet to add to his tally that is not for want of trying. He has attempted eight shots in three outings for the Baggies, hitting the target five times and testing the keeper in every Championship appearance so far.

Swift had 30 shots on target from 38 Championship appearances last season and has now tested the keeper at least once in nine of his last 11 starts in this competition.
