With the international break almost over, the return of club football is just around the corner. Luckily that gives us a busy week of action, with very little space between internationals ending and the major leagues returning.

With more crucial World Cup qualifiers in prospect and a wave of top class matches across Europe this weekend there’s plenty to sink your teeth into. However, we’ve once again scoured the schedules to find the standout live games.

Netherlands vs Turkey

7:45pm, Sky Sports Red Button

Tucked away off the main Sky channels this week is a clash between two of the contenders for top spot in Group G. With Norway set to leap into first place in their home meeting with Gibraltar the pressure is on these two in their showdown in Amsterdam.

Turkey are currently top – a point ahead of the Dutch going into this clash. The pair have played five games each and they’ve scored a combined 31 goals. That suggests we’ll get a lot of entertainment from a massive game for both sides, so both teams to score is our pick.

Northern Ireland vs Switzerland

7:45pm, Sky Sports Football

England may be facing off against Poland, but there’s really very little jeopardy for the Three Lions. Instead consider Northern Ireland’s push to make the World Cup, as they clash with Switzerland.

With Italy likely to seal top spot, the playoff place will likely be a battle between these two sides. The Swiss won 1-0 at Windsor Park in the playoffs for the 2018 World Cup. The Swiss won their opening two games in the group after winning four of their final five Euro 2020 qualifiers. We’re backing them to edge this second-place showdown.

Birmingham vs Derby

8pm, Sky Sports Main Event

Club football is back on Friday night with Championship action kicking things off. Birmingham have made a good start to the new season but the Blues have had a difficult time at St Andrew’s, losing to promotion hopefuls Bournemouth and Fulham in their last two at this ground.

They’ll find things easier on Friday, with Derby looking vulnerable. Off-field issues have plagued them all summer, while they’ve won just once in their last 11 Championship trips, losing nine. Back the Blues to win this one.

RB Leipzig vs Bayern Munich

5:30pm, Sky Sports Football

The Bundesliga returns with a weekend headlined by a title battle. Julian Nagelsmann takes his Bayern side back to his old stomping ground, with Leipzig hoping their smart summer business will see them rival the Bavarians for the German title.

However, that summer business involved selling their star defender to a Bayern side who keep getting stronger compared to their Bundesliga rivals. The visitors have won two from two in the league so far, scoring eight goals. When you add into that their 3-1 Supercup win over Dortmund and a 12-0 victory in the cup the champions look hard to oppose here.

AC Milan vs Lazio

5pm, BT Sport 1

Maurizio Sarri’s return to Serie A didn’t get much attention in the summer, but after winning 3-1 and 6-1 in his first two games people are now taking notice. They face a clash with a Milan side who have also won two from two so far.

However, Milan have won three of their last nine at home and this attack-minded Lazio side look hard to outscore after their red-hot start. We could get a thriller at San Siro this weekend and we expect Lazio to take something from the trip.
