Manchester United’s Third Round ties have been broadcast live since the dawn of time, but their meeting with Brighton is one of the standout weekend fixtures following another chaotic week at Old Trafford.
With Darren Fletcher in interim charge of a United side that isn’t in Europe, there’s little reason for the hosts not to play their strongest team. Fletcher will want to make an impression, but he faces a test against a Brighton side who should be targeting a run in this competition too.

Benjamin Sesko 3+ shots on target
Matheus Cunha finished 2025 as the clear focal point of Ruben Amorim’s attack, with Bryan Mbeumo away at AFCON. However, Benjamin Sesko took up that role in Fletcher’s first game, with seven of his eight shots hitting the target.
Sesko’s confidence should be high after scoring a brace in their 2-2 draw with Burnley, while four of his six efforts hit the target against Wolves in United’s last home game.
The switch to 4-2-3-1 puts more support around Sesko, and he should continue to benefit from that change. With 11 shots on target across his last three games, back him to record three or more shots on target on Sunday.
Bruno Fernandes to score or assist
Fernandes has 11 goal contributions in his last 11 games for United, while he has four assists and three goals across his last four appearances.
Fernandes recorded an assist against Burnley after returning to the side, and he had a goal and an assist against Bournemouth in his last home appearance. The Portuguese chipped in with either a goal or an assist in all three matches in last season’s FA Cup, so he can make an impact on this game.
Ferdi Kadioglou fouled 2+ times
Brighton are well stocked with full-backs, which has seen Ferdi Kadioglou play as a winger at times this season. The Turkish defender has been effective at drawing fouls of late, as he’s been fouled at least twice in three of his last four appearances.
He’s drawing fouls in multiple positions, and his ability to move around within the game makes him an interesting bet in this market. Kadioglou has been fouled at least once in six straight games, while he could easily spend time facing off with both United full-backs.
Diego Gomez to be carded
Gomez made more fouls than any other Brighton player in the EFL Cup this term, recording 10 across their three matches in that competition. He has also caught the attention of referees in the Premier League, making a team-high 24 fouls and getting booked five times.
United remain one of the league leaders in terms of bookings dished out to their opponents this season, so Gomez to be carded completes our fourfold for Sunday’s clash.
