Danny Welbeck to score anytime
Xabi Alonso refused to be drawn on Joao Pedro’s availability, but the forward won’t feature for Brazil during the three-week international break.
Welbeck has already proved to be a capable deputy to his former Brighton teammate, scoring three goals in place of Pedro in the Carabao Cup this season.
The former England man has a brilliant record against Brentford, scoring six goals across nine career meetings with the Bees. He scored home and away against them for Brighton last term, and he has found the net in four of his last five league appearances against them.
Kevin Schade to score or assist
Schade has scored three goals across his last three Premier League games, and the winger should be well-positioned to trouble Chelsea this week.
The Blues look lightweight in the middle of the pitch, thanks to injuries in midfield and their wing-backs frequently being caught out of position. They’ve conceded at least twice in all five of their matches against Premier League opposition this term.
Across those five matches, an opposition winger or attacking midfielder has scored in every game. Schade leads the Bees in terms of shots and efforts on target, and he’s created three chances in four Premier League appearances.
Emi Martinez to make 3+ saves
No Premier League team has faced more shots on target than Chelsea this season (26), which makes their late-window move for Emi Martinez even more important.
The former Aston Villa goalkeeper has received a baptism of fire, and he’s produced 15 saves across his first three appearances. The Argentine has made at least three saves in every match, and he’ll be tested by a Brentford side that has taken 38 shots across their first two home games.
Vitaly Janelt to be carded
Janelt has already been booked three times this season, and the midfielder has previous when it comes to facing Chelsea. He has been booked in three of the last four league meetings between the pair.
The German has a team-high nine fouls to his name, and he’s been booked in both of their matches at the Gtech this term.
Kevin Schade to make 2+ tackles
Chelsea have favoured the right side of the pitch going forward this season, with Alonso selecting Pedro Neto to play as a right-wing-back at times. With Cole Palmer starting on the right, and Reece James tending to drift across from central midfield, the Blues should make the players on Brentford’s left flank put in a shift defensively.
Schade won five tackles across their matches with Tottenham and Leeds to start the season, and he’ll be required to track back to deal with the threat Chelsea pose.
