Brentford looking to continue derby dominance

Brentford are in the midst of a tough run but they have had some tricky fixtures and will see the visit of Chelsea on Saturday as a chance to get back on track.

The Bees slipped to a fifth defeat in six games at West Ham last time out but their other losses during their rough patch have all come against teams in the top five, including two games against champions Manchester City.

Chelsea have managed to end their losing run away from home, but they have a few injury issues and were involved in a midweek FA Cup game as they had to dig deep to overcome Championship side Leeds.

Bees have a hold on Blues

Thomas Frank’s side claimed four points from Chelsea in the league last season and they on 2-0 at Stamford Bridge earlier in the campaign. With the Blues coming into this game after a midweek cup game they may be a little jaded, and Brentford can take advantage as they look to pull clear of the drop zone.

Chelsea claimed an unlikely point at Man City in their last trip but largely they have been poor on the road this season with six defeats in 13 trips. Brentford’s home form hasn’t been much better in truth, but four of their six home losses have come against the current top four and their recent record against Chelsea suggests they are worth backing as underdogs here.

Both teams can score

Chelsea have scored in six of their last seven games and in each of their last three league losses, while both teams have scored in eight of Brentford’s last nine home games. That suggests we could see goals at both ends in West London so a 2-1 win for the hosts is the correct score pick – as Brentford have scored exactly twice in each of their last two games against Chelsea.

Bees forward Neal Maupay looks a good goal contender here after his effort in the defeat at West Ham last time out. Four of the Frenchman’s six Premier League goals have come in his last seven games and he has six in his last nine appearances in all competitions. Maupay had an assist at Stamford Bridge earlier in the season and he can help fire his side to victory this weekend.
