Tip Reasoning

  • Brentford have scored in four of their last five league games
  • However, they’ve only kept one clean sheet in that run
  • The Blues have conceded in four on the bounce
  • Yoane Wissa has scored four goals across his last three games

Brentford making strides

Brentford have really impressed since claiming promotion to the Premier League, while their last few games before the international break were incredibly positive for Thomas Frank’s side. The Bees come into this with two wins from three in the top flight, drawing the other 3-3 against Liverpool.

That result should worry Thomas Tuchel, who has seen his Chelsea side stumble in recent weeks. The Blues were getting good results despite poor performances and that has brought out some vulnerabilities which will no doubt be tested here.

Wissa Revelation for Brentford

Yoane Wissa has emerged as a big impact player for Brentford, despite all the early focus being centred around Ivan Toney and Brian Mbeumo. Wissa has played the role of impact sub to perfection in his last two games, scoring a late equaliser against Liverpool before a 90th minute winner at West Ham.

That impact is set to earn Wissa a start at the weekend and I expect him to make the most of it. With four goals across his last three appearances the forward is making a big splash and against a Chelsea defence which is without Reece James and Thiago Silva, with doubts over Antoino Rudiger and N’Golo Kante, there’s a chance for Wissa to trouble the Blues. After his big impact, he’s great value to score anytime.

Bees to bruise Blues

Wissa is a clear threat, one of many in this Brentford side. The Bees have scored in four of their last five Premier League games and their three-goal haul at home to Liverpool is the mark of a real threat.

As mentioned, Chelsea haven’t looked that imperious of late. They are four games without a clean sheet, having conceded at home to Southampton next time out. The Bees have seen both teams score in their last two, while a below strength Chelsea side may struggle to keep the Bees out.

However, Chelsea continue to get results under Tuchel and bringing in Romelu Lukaku makes them stronger going forward. They will hurt the hosts – who have kept one clean sheet in five league starts. On top of backing both teams to score, I’m going for Chelsea to edge out a 2-1 victory at Brentford.

Brentford possible starting line-up: Raya; Ajer, Jansson, Pinnock; Canos, Norgaard, Onyeka, Henry; Mbeumo, Toney, Wissa

Chelsea possible starting line-up: Mendy; Chalobah, Christensen, Rudiger; Azpilicueta, Kovacic, Jorginho, Chillwell; Mount, Werner, Lukaku
