With Friday night comes the beginning of a long-awaited weekend and for many that means sinking their teeth into some top-flight football ahead of a hectic Saturday and Sunday.

To celebrate the passing of another work week, I’ve dived into one of the top-flight European games on offer to pick out three of the most ill-disciplined players in action, culminating in a tasty 20/1 Play Your Cards Right acca!

This week the focus is on Cadiz’s trip to Atletico Madrid as I pick out three players who could catch the referee’s eye.

20/1 Play Your Cards Right Treble

Stefan Savic

Diego Simeone was never one to shy away from a battle in his playing days so it’s not surprising that this Atletico Madrid team tend to tow the line a bit, with only four teams in La Liga picking up more cards than them this season.

Stefan Savic has been responsible for five of their 83 La Liga bookings in his 18 appearances and he has been booked in three of his last four La Liga outings.

Jose Gimenez

Jose Gimenez is joint-top of Atletico Madrid’s yellow card table despite only making 17 La Liga appearances and he’s added a further two cards, including one sending off, in the Champions League and Spanish Super Cup.

Many of his cards have been dealt out recently, too, with four bookings and one red card across his last nine competitive appearances.

Ruben Alcaraz

Cadiz holding midfielder Ruben Alcaraz arrived on loan from Real Valladolid in January and the 30-year-old certainly hasn’t wasted any time sticking his boot in.

He has been booked four times in his last six competitive outings for Cadiz and has committed an average of 2.3 fouls per game since joining, which is second only to fellow January arrival Fede San Emeterio.

Referee watch – Pablo Gonzalez

The man in the middle on Friday, Pablo Gonzalez, has dished out 70 bookings and nine red cards in his 14 games in charge this season and last season he was the most card-happy of all La Liga referees, handing out a huge 110 yellows in 21 appearances and one of only three referees to go into three figures.

His last appointment saw him book three players and send one off in Levante vs Elche at the end of February and he has handed out a massive 46 cards (41 yellow, five red) in his last seven assignments in all competitions.
