In the Championship, we needed Bristol City to produce the goods at home to Huddersfield, and a first half brace from Famara Diedhiou allowed the Robins to get the job done despite a second half fight back from the Terriers.

Next, we switched our attentions to Italy, where a heated Derby della Madonnina produced buckets of drama and controversy. Inter made the most of Zlatan Ibrahimović’s second half dismissal to turn the cup clash on its head, though they had to wait until the 97^th minute to snatch a victory.

Elsewhere, we banked on Real Betis’ superb recent form seeing them home against Real Sociedad in the Copa de Rey, in a tussle where we only needed the hosts to avoid defeat.

Sociedad managed to take Betis to extra time in Andalusia – landing our selection in process – though Betis eventually found a way to win before the tie went to penalty kicks.

Valladolid made it four legs from four with a Copa del Rey triumph at Girona, though there was a nervous moment or two as they held on to a 1-0 lead they established early on through Yeremi Pino.
