AC Milan vs Torino Predictions

Last season’s Coppa Italia runners-up are looking to go one better this time around. Having picked up some silverware just last month, can AC Milan build on that and reach the cup final for the second consecutive season? They’ve had an excellent campaign so far, sitting well above expectations. After winning the Supercoppa Italiana and establishing themselves in the Champions League fight, a cup run would be an even bigger boost to their season.

Milan are up against 8th placed Torino, a side who are having a reasonable campaign to date. However, they’re slowly slipping away from their pre-season ambition of a spot in the Europa League. They could yet book a place in Europe by winning the Coppa Italia, but can they find a way past tough opposition in the last 16? Il Toro are priced at 3/4 with bet365 to avoid defeat here, although that seems far too short a price.

The visitors have got an awful record on the road this term, winning just 20% of their away outings so far, losing 50%. Il Toro average less than a point per game on their travels. They’ve conceded an average of 1.7 goals against them away from their own ground, so clearly they’re struggling on trips to most grounds. In fact, they’ve avoided defeat in five Serie A away games, four of which were against teams in the bottom five places. Travelling to Milan is quite a step up from that.

Milan have won 70% of their matches here this season, losing just once. That defeat was their opening fixture in September, and they’ve strung together an eight game unbeaten home run since. Vincenzo Montella and his team started their strong season with a win over Torino at the San Siro in August. Seeing as AC have won six of their last eight at their own ground, they’re certainly capable of repeating their opening day victory.

With Torino picking up just 31% of their points in away games this season, plus conceding 63% of their total goals on the road, it’s easy to see Milan’s strong home record continuing in the cup. With the hosts priced as large as 11/10 with bet365 to win this game, we think Montella’s men are fantastic value ahead of this clash. We’re also backing them to win 2-1 here, at 15/2 with bet365.
