Adelaide United vs Melbourne Victory Predictions
- Adelaide United have lost four in a row, losing their place in the top six in the process.
- Melbourne Victory have won two of their last three but will be disappointed by their 3-2 loss to Central Coast Mariners last weekend.
- Both teams have scored in 10 of Adelaide’s 12 games so far this season, equating to 83%.
- The same can be said of 61% of Melbourne Victory games, with both teams scoring in eight of their 13 games.
- There have only been three games featuring either of these sides this season that have ended in a draw. None of these have featured Adelaide United.
Can Adelaide United finally find a win?
Things are becoming a little desperate at Adelaide in recent weeks, with four losses in their last four games, and their lack of form has led to them dropping out of the finals series places. They had still been scoring in their games despite their poor form but they drew a blank last weekend in a 3-0 loss to Perth and things need to change quickly.
The side have averaged 1.58 goals per game so far this season, a good return that puts them in the top five for goals scored; but they’ve conceded 21, which works out to 1.75 goals per game. That gives them the third-worst defensive record in the league.
Melbourne Victory need to find some consistency
Melbourne Victory actually went up a place into the top six last weekend despite losing, due to Adelaide’s 3-0 loss making their goal difference worse than The Victory. Melbourne Victory suffered a 3-2 loss to Central Coast, a match they were winning 2-1 in the 93rd minute, which ended their mini run of form that had seen them beat Melbourne City and Newcastle Jets.
Victory have scored 17 goals this season, an average of 1.30 goals per game, but conceded at a slightly worse rate of 1.38. Their lack of output in attack, combined with their defensive frailties, has led to them struggling this season, performing well below expectations. They’ll need to improve to make the finals series without a real fight.
Will Adelaide be red or blue?
There doesn’t look like too much to choose from between these two sides this weekend, with neither team really coming into the game with much form behind them. They have both been able to find the net regularly this season, though, and their poor defensive records mean we’re backing both teams to score in this game.
Picking a winner is a little harder but Adelaide have yet to draw this season, a record we can see continuing for at least another week. Melbourne Victory have picked up a couple of wins in the past few weeks and we think they just have the edge in this one, so we’re predicting a 2-1 win for Victory.
