Villa to maintain winning run

Aston Villa have won each of their last three games ahead of their return to Europe on Thursday night. The Villains topped their Europa Conference League group back in December and they’re heavy favourites to claim a win in Amsterdam.

This has been far from a stellar season for Ajax, who sit fifth in the Dutch Eredivisie. They have improved after an awful start, but they head into this having won once in their last seven, needing extra-time to scrape past Bodo / Glimt in the last round of this competition.

Bodo / Glimt led 2-0 before a late Ajax comeback when the pair met in Amsterdam last month. Villa are a much sterner test, with Unai Emery’s side winning home and away to an AZ Alkmaar side who are four points ahead of Ajax.

The visitors have won four of their last five games in this competition and having scored nine times across their recent three-match winning streak, they should prove too strong. However, Villa have seen both teams score in each of their last five and they also conceded home and away to AZ. Ajax have seen both teams score in eight of their 10 games in 2024, so back the Dutch side to score in a defeat.
