Ajax vs Celta Vigo Predictions

These two are favourites to qualify from this group, they sit second and first respectively after three games. Ajax know they can leapfrog Celta Vigo into first place with three points here. This game has turned into a battle for top spot, and Ajax come into it in fantastic form.

They’ve been brilliant this season, even though they’re second in this group and the Eredivisie table. Ajax are unbeaten in their last 13 games, winning 11 of those. The visitors have managed just one win in their last nine away games, a run which stretches back to last season. Can they end that poor run in this crucial clash?

Ajax are coming in o this on the back of six straight home wins, they’ve won 73% of their league games this season, which is second only to Feyenoord. While the runaway Dutch leaders are playing fantastically well, they face a big test from Peter Bosz and his team. The hosts are scoring for fun, hitting 2.8 goals per game. They’ve been incredibly solid at the back, letting in just 0.82 goals per match this term. If they can carry on that form, they should jump above Celta on Thursday night.

Especially when you look at the Spanish side’s away record. They really struggle on the road, having won just 20% of their away fixtures. They pick up a point per game on their travels in La Liga, scoring 1.2 goals and conceding 2 per outing. With Ajax in fine scoring form, the Spaniards should be worried about their defence.

They’ll need to keep an eye on young Ajax forward Kasper Dolberg. The Danish forward has been a revelation for the Dutch side this season, breaking into the team and scoring five times in 10 starts. The 19-year-old has scored three times in his last four appearances at the Amsterdam Arena, while he scored the only goal in their home victory against Standard Liege in the Europa League. We’re backing the forward to add to his tally, he’s 13/8 to score here.

While Celta need to worry about Dolberg, they also need to improve their return away from home. Just 30% of their league points have been picked up away from their own fans. Celta’s only away game in this group saw them draw 1-1 with Standard. Given their poor record, we’re backing the Spanish side to struggle here. A home win is our tip, given Ajax’s strong winning run. They’re 5/6 to claim three points and move top of the group.
