New York City vs Real Salt Lake Predictions
New York City won their final game of the regular season 2-1 at Philadelphia Union and their reward for finishing top of the Eastern Conference was a spot in the Semi-finals of the Playoffs and home advantage against the winners of Toronto and DC United. The Canadian came out on top against the Washington based club but needed extra time to secure a 5-1 victory.
All of the stats point towards a home win for New York City in Thursday’s Semi-final and we’ve backed the hosts to secure a narrow 2-1 victory.
The head to head record between these two clubs is dead level after thirteen encounters and with that in mind, we’re expecting a tight and tense ninety minutes this Thursday. New York City have won two of their last four matches against Toronto and have only lost once against the Canadians during that period. Both teams scored in four of the pairs’ last six encounters and we’re expecting that trend to continue this Thursday as neither team have kept many clean sheet sin recent weeks.
The form of both clubs over the last month or so only adds weight to our prediction for a home win, as New York City have won four of their last seven matches and Toronto have only won two of their last six matches. The performances of both teams during that period suggests that we will see goals at both ends of the pitch when the two sides meet, as both teams scored in six of New York City’s and four of Toronto’s last seven matches.
New York City are unbeaten in their last eight home games, picking up seven wins, and will be looking to extend their fine run of form at home against as Toronto side they finished three places and fourteen points ahead of during the regular season. Toronto have only won one of their last seven away games in all competitions and that is going to be a big concern heading into a tricky Semi-final tie against a team that topped the Eastern Conference and has an excellent home record this season.
We’re confident that New York City will win on Thursday and we have predicted a final scoreline of 2-1. The hosts head into the game as the favourites to progress through to the regional final, and with the home advantage, it’s hard to see Toronto standing much of a chance of success on Thursday. The visitors have struggled on the road and needed extra time to get through their home tie against DC United last time out, and New York City should be an even tougher test in the Semi-finals.
