Anderlecht vs Union Saint Gilloise Predictions

  • Anderlecht drew four of their last six league games in 2020-21.
  • Anderlecht have won only two of their last eight home league games (Drawn 4, lost 2)
  • Union Saint Gilloise were promoted from First Division B last season with 70 points from possible 84.

Shock could be on cards for Brussels big boys

The Belgian fixture computer has thrown up a first weekend cracker as newly-promoted Union travel to Brussels to take on Vincent Kompany’s Anderlecht.

Union SG are former giants of the Belgian game with 11 national titles and are making their top-flight return after 48 years in the wilderness.

Felice Mazzu’s side stormed to the Division B title last season with 22 wins, four draws and only two defeats, finishing 28 points clear of Seraing in second.

And they have all the ingredients for the sort of success that all promoted teams strive for – survival in year one.

They could make their intentions clear at Lotto Park where Anderlecht have been less than convincing in recent times, winning only two of their last eight on home turf.

Kompany’s men became known as slow starters and were left chasing the game far too often during their disappointing run in to finish fourth.

Anderlecht conceded in the opening goal in their last five home games and another such sloppy start could see them punished by a buoyant visiting side.

The odds on Union SG taking all three points are tempting, but we also like the payout for the visitors in the Double Chance market and that makes more sense given Anderlecht have failed to win six of their last eight league games at home.

But, because it’s opening weekend and strange things can happen we are taking Union SG – who beat Ligue 1 seventh-placed finishers Lens in pre-season, to come away with a 2-1 victory in the correct score betting.
