Maccabi look out of their depth

Maccabi Tel Aviv have dropped just four points in their ten Israeli League games this season, but it has been a different story in the Europa League and that does not bode well for their visit to Aston Villa on Thursday.

The visitors, who will have no supporters inside Villa Park, drew their opening league-stage game against PAOK, but home defeats to Dinamo Zagreb (3-1) and Midtjylland (3-0), demonstrate the gulf in class that this competition offers in contrast to their domestic football.

Villa have got over their sticky start to the campaign and manager Unai Emery should be confident his team can bounce back with ease from the 2-1 defeat they suffered in the Netherlands against Go Ahead Eagles.

Villa are strong at the back at home
