Atalanta vs AC Milan Predictions
- Five of the last eight head-to-head meetings between Atalanta and AC Milan have contained a minimum of three goals.
- Five of Milan’s last seven competitive matches have contained over 2.5 goals.
- There were 60 goals scored across Atalanta’s 19 home Serie A games last season.
Champions face first major test
AC Milan were some way short of their fluid best in a 4-2 opening-day win over Udinese at San Siro, with a number of defensive errors from the Zebrette proving pivotal as the Rossoneri began their title defence with a win. Stefano Pioli does not have to wait long for Milan’s first high-profile test of the campaign, with a trip to Bergamo to face Atalanta always representing a difficult proposition.
While Milan boasted one of Europe’s finest defensive records during the second half of last season as they ended an 11-year wait for the Scudetto, the Rossoneri looked less than solid last week and have now seen over 2.5 goals scored in five of their last seven competitive matches. Milan’s recent meetings with Atalanta, meanwhile, have also tended to provide entertainment; 27 goals have been scored in the sides’ last eight contests.
Gian Piero Gasperini began his seventh campaign as Atalanta boss with a routine 2-0 triumph over Sampdoria last week, and hopes are high in Bergamo that his side will build on last season’s eight-placed finish, when their home form was a real concern. Indeed, La Dea won just four of their 19 home Serie A games last campaign, although their fans were still treated to regular entertainment, with 60 goals being scored in those contests.
Prime-time clash should deliver goals
While Milan looked disjointed at the back last time out, the additions of Divock Origi and Charles de Ketelaere give them added attacking depth, while 11 of Atalanta’s 19 home league games last season contained over 2.5 goals.
Backing the net to be hit at least three times when two of Serie A’s best outfits meet on Sunday appears the outstanding play, while the Rossoneri, who are chasing a fourth successive win over Atalanta, could snatch a 2-1 victory in Bergamo, given their strong record in big games.
