Shrimpers can catch three points

Southend will be hoping to mount a title challenge in the National League this season and the Shrimpers are second-favourites behind Boreham Wood on the outright market.

Kieron Dyer is an inexperienced gaffer, who has been handed the task of steering Southend back into the football league and it’s been a fairly encouraging start.

The Essex club have lost only two of their ten National League matches this season and that includes 3-1 wins at Altrincham, Tamworth and Solihull and a 6-1 hammering of Gateshead.

It’s fairly clear that Dyer is looking to go on the front foot and Southend have a strong forward line with Promise Omochere, Harry Cardwell, Sam Austin and Leon Chambers-Parillon combining to hit 16 fifth-tier goals this term.

On the other hand, the Shrimpers conceded four goals in a 4-2 home loss to Barrow on Saturday. Dyer said the defeat was “unacceptable” and a leaky defence has seen Southend keep only one clean sheet in ten National League matches this term.

Eastleigh will no doubt look to target the Shrimpers’ suspect rearguard, but the Spitfires conceded four times themselves when losing 4-1 at Harrogate at the weekend and it’s only one win in six fifth-tier games for Matt Gray’s men.

Southend look a good bet to blast past Eastleigh and leave Ten Acres with three points.
