Portugal can extend perfect start

Portugal have made a perfect start to their Nations League defence with wins over Wales and Norway and they look good value for maximum points in Denmark.

The Danes slipped to a 3-2 defeat in Norway before claiming a dominant 2-0 win over the Welsh. Denmark are a tough side to break down and have a strong home record, but Portugal’s pair of performances under new boss Jorge Jesus suggest they can grind out a victory in Copenhagen.

Denmark failed to qualify for the World Cup as they lost a play-off to Czech Republic, having been denied automatic qualification by Scotland. They are in mixed form in general with just three wins in their last eight games, while Portugal have been solid – if uninspiring – with just one loss in their last 12.

Portugal’s solid defence is their main strength and they can keep Denmark at bay on Thursday. A 1-0 away win is the pick as five of Portugal’s last six wins have come via one-goal margins and Denmark’s last two home losses have been by a single goal.
