Athletic Bilbao vs Las Palmas Predictions
The Basques are having a strong campaign and have won their last 3 matches in all competitions and 11 of their last 15. They picked up an excellent 1-0 win at 4th placed Celta Vigo in midweek, a result that has really pushed them into serious European contention and they are only outside the top six on goal difference.
Las Palmas also picked up a massive win in their final game of 2015. They crushed fellow strugglers Granada 4-1 on Wednesday night to move out of the drop-zone and into 16th. That was their 4th win in 5 on Gran Canaria although they have found their trips to the mainland fair less profitable.
Incredibly you have to go back 15 years to January 2001 for their last Primera Division win in mainland Spain and they haven’t won on any of their 35 trips since then, including 8 so far this season which have yielded just 2 points.
With Athletic in such good form, they shouldn’t have any problems winning this game and they have won 4 of their last 5 at home in the league, with their only dropped points coming via a 0-0 draw against Malaga when they were reduced to 10 men after just 19 minutes.
They’ve scored 2 or more goals in all those other games and with Las Palmas having conceded at least 3 goals in 3 of their last 5 away from home, backing Athletic to win and their to be over 2.5 goals at 11/10 might be a smart move.
Athletic will be without influential centre-back Aymeric Laporte due to suspension so a Las Palmas side who will come into the game with a bit of confidence following their midweek win could nick a goal but are likely to get outclassed ultimately and backing a 3-1 home win looks good at 11/1.
