Atletico Nacional vs Fluminense Predictions
Thursday’s Copa Sudamericana second round, second leg clash sees Colombians Atletico Nacional doing battle with Brazilians Fluminense. The tie is all but over already, with Fluminense arriving 4-1 up after their impressive win in last week’s first leg.
It’s fair to say 2019 hasn’t gone as planned for Atletico Nacional and they now find themselves on the brink of continental elimination once again. The Colombians have already been knocked out of the Copa Libertadores earlier on in the year and after their terrible showing in Rio de Janeiro last week, they now find themselves set for a swift exit from the Sudamericana too.
League performance have also been underwhelming and inconsistent in recent months and that has culminated in boss Paulo Autuori losing his job, leaving preparations for this game heavily disrupted. Having lost 3 of their last 4 games, Nacional come into this game in poor spirits and form and it’s fair to say a comeback doesn’t look on the cards on Thursday.
Meanwhile, we had great success in backing Fluminense in the first leg and they more than stepped up to the plate with a dominant showing. The Brazilians appear one of the stronger sides in the Sudamericana this year and after reaching the semi-finals last year, they’ll be looking for another deep run in it over the coming months.
Despite a 3-2 domestic defeat to Bahia at the weekend, Flu arrive in good spirits on Colombian soil and have been playing well in recent weeks. Tricolor are playing in an attractive, attacking manner that has them more than a match for any side and leaves them looking well placed to see through their first leg lead.
Ultimately, given the current state of Atletico Nacional, you can safely say this tie is all but over and a home comeback just doesn’t look likely. The hosts are in poor form, have been unconvincing all year and were dominated by Fluminense no less than a week ago.
All things considered, backing Fluminense on the double chance line looks the best way to play as far as the betting is concerned and is exactly where our money is going. Atletico Nacional have won just 8 of their last 25 games and we can’t envisage them even reducing the deficit in this tie, with a 1-1 draw on the night that would safely put Fluminense through appearing to be on the cards.
